Rules and RegulationsSTUDENT DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES a. To those students whose behavior on the premises or otherwise is incompatible with the character and dignity of higher education students; who directly or indirectly restrict the freedom of learning and teaching; who violate the peace and order of institutions; who participate in actions such as boycotts, occupations and obstructions; who encourage and provoke such actions; who assault the person, the honor and the dignity of the personnel of higher education institutions; who behave disrespectfully; and who participate in anarchic or ideological actions or encourage and provoke such actions, penalties will be given including warning, reprimand, suspension or expulsion from higher education institutions, even though such conduct involves another offence. b. The Faculty Dean, the Graduate School or School of Higher Education Director is authorized to investigate disciplinary violations by students on or off the premises of a Faculty, or of a Graduate School, or of a School of Higher Education, and directly to mete out the appropriate punishment or to refer the case to the disciplinary committee. c. The procedure for disciplinary investigation is to be commenced as soon as the incident is made known, and the investigation is to be concluded within fifteen days at most. d. A student who is under investigation has the right of oral or written defense. A student who does not make his/her defense within the allocated period is assumed to have renounced this right. e. A student is notified of disciplinary action in writing. The case is reported both to the organization from which (s)he receives a scholarship or grant and also to the Council of Higher Education. The student has the right to appeal to the University Administrative Board within 15 days for reconsideration of the decision concerning expulsion from a higher education institution. Penalties are entered into a student’s official records. f. During the procedures to be carried out in accordance with this Article, notification can, if deemed necessary, be made to the student by public notice at his/her own higher education institution. g. A decision to expel a student from a higher education institution is reported to all higher education institutions, to the Council of Higher Education, to Security Authorities and to the relevant draft office. Students who have been expelled from a higher education institution for disciplinary reasons are not eligible for admission to any higher education institution. Rules and Regulations to be Observed by the Students a) Students are required to attend classes on time. The instructor does not have the authority to admit late-comers or to give permission for non-attendance, except admission of those to the class during initial ten minutes of the first teaching hour in the morning. b) Students have to come to class equipped with books, notebooks, pencils etc. c) Students have to participate in classroom activities and do their homework. d) Students have to behave with respect and consideration to others both in and between lessons and not cause disturbance to others. e) Smoking inside the building (in the classrooms and corridors) is strictly forbidden. Food, beverages and chewing gum is also forbidden in the classrooms. Anybody breaking the rule is subject to disciplinary action. f) A clean and tidy environment is a sign of civility. All students are expected to play their part in keeping the classroom furniture, the university building and its surrounding area in good order. The dictionaries, books, CD players, televisions, and videos, computers in the Self Access Centre should be used carefully and returned to their allotted places after use. Any student who misuses the above mentioned equipment is subject to disciplinary action. g) In Atılım Preparatory School cheating in examinations is considered to be a serious offence. Any student caught doing so will be marked “0” and the relevant disciplinary procedure will be applied. h) Students should carry their identification cards at all times and be prepared to show them upon request. To safeguard against loss, students should not leave any personal possessions unattended in the classroom. i) Students must not collect money or sell any items under the name of any organization. j) Students are not allowed to enter offices of the instructors, personnel or unattended rooms without permission. k) Posters and leaflets cannot be displayed or distributed without permission. l) Students are expected to check the notice boards for announcements every day. m) Students are required to speak English in class. n) Dangerous driving or any other action, which could endanger others or disturb the peace on campus is strictly forbidden. o) Students with head scarves and caps are not allowed to attend the class. |
